Edward Hopper Blog Post

I really like the shadows in this painting because without the light coming in from the window it would have been completely dark. Also the girl looking out the window makes the viewer want to see what she's looking at. She also looks very distressed making the viewer more interested to see what is making her have that body language. I like how some of her body is in shadows and some is not. It makes her look 3D and real. I also like the big contrast on the wall behind the girl. It brings the eye to the middle so it will not get lost and flow off the page while looking at the window.
This painting inspires me to try doing a piece with a person in it. I have never tried painting a person because it is very challenging but I think I want to try. I think I would do it in oil pastel so that I do not have to be so meticulous like with painting. I also have not done oil pastel in a while. Lastly I like the inside, outside work. I think that would look very cool in some bright oil pastel colors.

Word post #3- Fire Hydrant

This is a picture if a fire hydrant I took over the summer. It's on the same corner my house is on. I like it because if the angle and the contrast between the dark street and the bright fire hydrant. The grass growing around the hydrant was hard to sketch but I tried to not focus on every blade of grass and go for a more general shape. This relates to my word because it is a FIRE hydrant, which they use to put out fires, haha.

Thiebaud Inspired Sketches

I started with the scissors but it was hard working on the shadow on the scissors and the shapes of the shadows. I then switched to the bottles which was much easier and fun with the shapes it made on the paper. There were also much easier to copy on the carbon copy. I also liked how the light went through the liquid in the glass.

Here are my prints, it took me a while to do because I kept smudging them. I like mixing the colors.

Word Sketch #2- Fire sketch inspired by Artist

For my sketch I chose The Hiroshima Panels are on big traditional style folding screens. They are by Iri and Toshi Maruki, a couple who were inspired by the Hiroshima nuclear bombing from the US and took 30 years to complete this mural.
I was inspired by this work because not only is the back story touching but the work is like you can't take your eyes off it. Her mesmerizing stare just makes you sympathize with her and the young baby she's holding. The fire came into play with her hair which I liked because it is kind of saying it has put a permanent affect on her and her family. It says a lot all in one painting.
I think I really butchered it with the colors but if I were painting I would get a good mix of the brown and orange. I just thought it would not be understandable If I did it without color.

Diebenkorn Work and Thoughts

I really liked this photo because of it's sue of warm versus cool colors from top to bottom and then that patch of light at the top really draws the attention. Also I like that the viewer of this work would be wondering what is this person looking at? It brings the eye to the middle where she is looking instead of off the page.

Word Post #1- Lighter

This was inspired by my word fire. I just used a random lighter and made my brother photograph. Catching the light on the hand and the flame were the two hardest things. After much erased here is my work.

Thiebaud Blog Entry

I like the idea of doing the multiple things in shadows like Wayne Thiebaud's work. I think I am deciding to use his idea to make a work of stools. I will put them all in the same position like Thiebaud to represent the pattern he likes to use.
My second idea is using sun glasses like a work of Thiebaud, I thought it looked really cool and I would do it in a row and the light going through the lens would look really cool.

Im excited

I really like art and I cannot wait to get into painting this year. I really like the idea Ms. Rickman came up with and I chose fire as my word. My top three right now are fire place, lighter, and campfire. I was thinking I would sketch the fire place, paint the lighter, and photograph the campfire. I wish I could do more than 3 works. I kinda want to do all of them. The ones I know would be hard to do is lava, torch, hot, line of fire, and ring of fire because I do not have access to those things. But I think I could find a way to do it. I CANT WAIT TO START!
